New Glasgow

In the early morning of Saturday, January 13, 2024, Hazel MacAskill passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones, after a short illness.

Hazel was born March 8, 1948, in Sydney, to the late Allan and Sarah (MacDonald) MacPherson.

Hazel met her husband, Peter MacAskill, and married on September 7, 1968. They went on to have two children, Crystal, and Wesley. Being a mother was one of the greatest joys in her life. Later that joy became even more prominent and strong when she became a grandmother and great-grandmother.

Hazel was the heart of her family, forever and always. Besides spending time with her family and loved ones. Hazel enjoyed baking sweets, playing cards, and chatting up a storm. Boy, did she love to talk to people. She always had a smile on her face, a kind word for you, and if you were lucky enough, a little treat she had baked recently.

Hazel is survived by her husband, Peter MacAskill; daughter, Crystal MacLean (Donald); son, Wesley MacAskill (Lori MacGregor); her most cherished grandchildren, Kendal MacAskill, Samantha Davis (Harold), Taylor MacLean, Hannah MacAskill, Scott MacAskill, Ethan MacGregor, and Sean MacAskill; great-granddaughter, Audrey Hazel Davis; her sisters, Mary MacPherson, Carmel Sparling (Dave), Elizabeth MacSween (Allan), and Nora MacPherson; brothers, Lloyd MacPherson (Helen), and Louis MacPherson (Deloras); as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Greta MacPherson, Sarah MacPherson, Eileen Peters (Leo), Syliva Black (Allison), Judy MacAskill (Eric), and brothers, Lawerence MacPherson (Pat) and George MacPherson (Jeannie).

Very special and heartfelt thank you to Amanda Aucoin Wilson and Hazel’s family who reached out daily. For all their love, support, and prayers during a difficult time. Cremation has taken place.

Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Hazel MacAskill will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd.
