It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of Byron Edmund ‘Sonny’ Goode on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with his family by his side.

Born on January 31, 1942, in Sydney, Sonny was the son of the late Chester and Ada Goode. For most of Sonny’s life he was a heavy-duty mechanic for O’Toole’s Transfer and went on to work for Hillman’s Transfer where he retired in 1992.

Sonny is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Faye; children, Maryann McKee (Randy), Debbie LeBlanc (Donald), Paul (Maureen), David, Paula Goode, Tonia MacAulay (Trevor), Lisa Goode-Carter and Jason whom he thought of as his son; 18 grandchildren, Chris, Ashley, Amanda, Pamela, DJ, JB, Mark, Joey, Adam, Paul Jr, Jenna, Joshua, Jessica, Andrew, Loralee, Thomas, Sarah, and Skylier; 16 great grandchildren; brother, Jimmy (Marguerite); sisters, Celina Rozicki (Joe) and Florence Hill; brothers-in-law, John ‘Piper’ (Kathy), Deacon, and sisters-in-laws, Marilyn, Linda (Chris), Debbie, Margo (Carman) and Sherry; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Sonny shared his love for the outdoors at the cabin, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and his best fur friend, Sadie.

Besides his parents, Sonny was predeceased by his sister, Ruby MacPherson (Charles); brother, David; son, Jimmy; daughter, Marlene; grandchildren, Natasha, and Matthew; nephew, Little Joe; in-laws, Charles, and Catherine MacDonald; brothers-in-law, Donald, Doug, David, Gary, and sister-in-law, Elaine.

Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Sonny Goode will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Thursday, February 1, 2024. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 2 to 3 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 3 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Following the service there will be a reception at the funeral home. Private family interment will take place at a later date in Hardwood Hill Cemetery, Sydney.

Faye, Tonia, Lisa, Paul, David, Sarah, Thomas, Isabella and family. Sonny was such a genuinely caring man. I’ll always remember how he listened to and cared for everyone, family and friends. I know you’ll miss him dearly. I feel so lucky to have known him my whole life. You and your family are in my heart. Sending my thoughts and prayers to you.
