It is with heavy hearts, that we, the family announce the unexpected passing of our dear father, grandfather, spouse, uncle, father-in-law, brother and friend, Alvin Kennedy, age 66, on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born on October 12, 1957, in Sydney, Alvin was the son to the late Garfield and Lucy (Burke) Kennedy.

Alvin is survived by his loving partner, Mary Campbell; daughter, Andrea (Ryan) Reid, and was a much loved ‘Papa K’ to his girls, Emily and Danielle Reid. He is also survived by his siblings, Tommy (Lloydette), Harry (Glenda), Leonard, Elaine (Stewart), Jackie, Stephen, Glenda (Billy), Jamie (Brenda) and Jody (Shari); many nieces, nephews, cousins and his much loved ‘furry companion’, Mira.

Besides his parents, Alvin was predeceased by his son, Ryan Kennedy (Calgary, AB); brothers, Dennis, Bobby, Donald and Sandy; niece, Melissa; brothers-in-law, Roger and Kenny, and sister-in-law Linda.

Prior to his retirement, Alvin worked a thirty-year career in Calgary, AB, where he was the proud manager of G.B.M Trailer Services. Many lifelong friends were made during Alvin’s years in Alberta. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Alvin. Alvin loved a quiet evening with his ‘Marebear’, never to miss an episode of Coronation Street.

Master of tools, fixer of all, Alvin left a lasting mark with every project completed. His skilled hands and kind heart will be remembered by all who benefited from his craftsmanship and generosity.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to EHS, and the staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their care of Alvin in his time of need.

Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Alvin Kennedy will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Thursday, January 25, 2024. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 3 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Private family interment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Alvin, may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the Canadian Diabetes Association.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
