Sydney
It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Leslie D. Turcotte on Monday, December 4, 2023, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Les was born October 17, 1933, in Dorintosh, Saskatchewan, to the late William and Minnie Turcotte.
Les is survived by his wife, Alma (MacDougall) Turcotte of Sydney; sons, Jim (Jill), Calgary and John, Taiwan; sister, Delia Broswick, British Columbia; three grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Les was predeceased by brothers, Ken, Harvey, and sisters, Vera, Mary, Marjorie, Barbara, Delores, and Claudia.
Les was a member of the Canadian Military for 20 years and was stationed in areas across Canada and Germany. He then worked with the base engineers at CFB Shilo, Manitoba. Les was a “Jack of all Trades” around the house. He enjoyed curling, golf, gardening, and loved to share his produce from his garden. Les and Alma travelled down south for many years when the weather turned cold.
Upon his request, there will be no visitation or funeral. Cremation has taken place with a private graveside service. There will be a reception at the Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier at 12 noon on Thursday, December 7, 2023.
Donations in memory of Les may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
Online Condolences
Alma & Family Our sincere condolences on Les’ passing. Enjoyed meeting Les in Sydney after you folks moved from Big pond. Les always had a little story to tell me of what was happening in Sydney. One thing he taught me — Donot put your lawnmower away full of grass—make sure it is clean! Thanks Les
