Sydney

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family announce the peaceful passing of Dorothy Mary Chipman on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at home in Sydney, with her family by her side.

Born on August 13, 1938, Mom was a daughter of the late John and Mary Ann (MacNeil) Mugridge.

Mom loved to dance especially to Footloose. She was a fantastic baker and a great sewer. Mom had so many talents but the best one was how much she loved her family. She was our rock and our soft place that will be missed. We are heart broken and will miss her every moment of everyday of the rest of our lives.

Mom is survived by her daughters, Dorothy Locke (Darrell) and Rose Martell (late Joseph); son, David Chipman (late Annette Thorne); brother, Ralph Mugridge (Sharon); grandchildren, Nicholas Deveaux, Tara Deveaux, Nikki Conrad, Amanda MacDonald, Ryan Chipman, Jennifer Chipman, Glenn Gary Chipman, Kenny MacInnis, Daniel MacInnis and Brandon Martell-MacInnis; sisters-in-law, Margaret Mugridge, Claire Chipman and Shirley Sheppard; as well as many great-grandchildren and special niece, Louann MacDonald.

Mom is predeceased by her husband, Richard Maxwell; sons, Danny Chipman and Wayne Chipman; brothers, Gerald, Ernest, James, John, Wilfred, Raymond, Robert and Bernie and sister, Theresa.

A special thank you to the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional and to the staff at the Victoria Order of Nurses in Sydney for their care and compassion for Mom in her time of need.

Today is the first day of our lives without her. God help us, our soft place to land is gone. Mom, we will be with you soon. We love you to the moon and back. We cannot wait to be able to see you again.

There will be no visitation for the late Dorothy Chipman. Memorial service will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Private Interment will take place in Hardwood Hill, Sydney.
