We, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Theresa ‘Terry’ Marie MacKinnon, age 80, on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at the Cape Breton Reginal Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her family.
Born on June 16, 1943, in New Waterford, Terry was the daughter of the late Neil and Catherine (MacNeil) MacDonald.
Terry was swept off her feet by her soul mate, Peter in 1960. They married on August 10, 1963, and danced their way through life for 59 years. Terry was a gentle and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister-in-law, and friend. She had a smile that would light up the room.
Terry is survived by daughters, Carol Lee (Keith) Barrington and Trina (Clifford) Stewart; grandchildren, Mark (Christina) Barrington, Brian (Melissa) Barrington, Holly Barrington, and Keegan Aubin, and seven great-grandchildren, Anna, Emma, Keegan, Kameron, Riley, Abby, and Meri.
Besides her parents, Terry was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband, Peter and two grandsons, Bruce Barrington, and Kyle Gallant.
A special thank you to the nurses and staff at the Northside Community Guest Home and Cape Breton Regional Hospital for taking care of Terry in her time of need.
Visitation for the late Terry MacKinnon will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, November 5, 2023. A celebration of Terry’s life will be held in the funeral home All Faith Chapel on Monday, November 6, 2023, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Interment will take place Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
