Birch Plain

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family announce the passing of our mother, Mae (MacQueen) Keigan on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, at the age of 95.

Born on April 2, 1928, in Birch Plain, Victoria County, Mae was a daughter to the late Kenneth and Mary (MacAskill) MacQueen.

Born and raised in Birch Plain, Mom spent her entire life on the North Shore.  Along with her late husband, John, they raised a family of eight children.  She had a huge heart and was always concerned with the wellbeing of others.  Mom gave freely of what she had, expecting nothing in return.  Mom maintained lifelong friendships with childhood friends and relatives.  She always enjoyed catching up on the day’s news and was always willing to give her opinion, solicited or not. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mom will be remembered fondly by her sons, Lorne (Dorothy), Baddeck, Darrell (Charlene), Ross Ferry, daughter, Lynn (John), Main-a-Dieu, sister-in-law, Joan MacQueen; dear family member, Judy Keigan, Big Baddeck; her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mom was predeceased by her husband, John; sons, Kenneth, Carl, Allan and Claude; daughter, Heather; brother, Raymond MacQueen; and two brothers in infancy, Norman and Ewan.

Cremation has taken place. Celebration of Life for the late Mae Keigan will take place on Saturday, October 14, 2023, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the St. Ann’s Bay United Church, Barrachois, 46715 Cabot Trail.
