Frederick Thomas Barrie, age 68, of Sydney, passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2022, at home.

Born on May 16, 1954, in North Sydney, Fred was a son of the late George W. Barrie and Elizabeth (Collier) Barrie.

In his younger years, Fred worked at the icehouse on Musgrave’s Lane in North Sydney. He later worked as a security guard and also enjoyed working at Northside General Environmental Services. His hobbies included antique cars, trains, motors and tinkering with computers throughout his last years.

Besides his parents, Fred was predeceased by his brothers, George Barrie, Ontario, Glen Barrie, Sydney, and James (Buster) Barrie, Ontario. Also predeceased were his half-brothers, Lewis Barrie, Ontario, and Alison Bezanson; half-sisters, Mary Rudderham, and Irene (Jobes) Barrie; his little niece, Vivian Barrie and nephews, Calvin Rudderham and Danny Sutherland.

Fred is survived by his sons, Joe, and Paul Barrie, both of Sydney, and John Barrie, Ontario; sisters, Gloria Sutherland, Antigonish, and Sharon Barrie, Halifax; nine grandchildren; former wife, Valerie; as well as many nieces and nephews.

  A gathering of family and friends to celebrate the life of Frederick Barrie will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2023.

Flowers or donations in memory of Fred are welcome. Donations can be made to CNIB, since his grandnephew, Justin Williams, who is blind, had many very special memories with him.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
