“To the world you were a dad. To our family you were the world.”

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our dear father, grandfather and great-grandfather, uncle and best friend, Michael Kolchetski on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at Hospice Cape Breton with his loving daughter, Karen at his side.

Born and raised in Sydney, Michael was the son to the late Michael and Helen (Kocsis) Kolchetski.

In his early years Michael was an avid golfer who also enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing hockey and snowmobiling with his son-in-law, Harold and great friend, Freddie. His greatest love was his grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

Michael moved his family to Port Hawkesbury in 1977 where he worked for AECL, Louisiana-Pacific Corporation and Ocean Nutrition, where he worked as an operator.

Michael had many interests and there was nothing he couldn’t fix. He loved gardening, woodworking, cooking and his new lawn tractor he sadly wasn’t able to get to use.

Michael’s courageousness was a blessing to Karen during his sudden but brief illness. It was his courage that gave Karen the strength to be by his beside and comfort him each day.

Michael was never the same after the passing of his wife, Ella. He is now reunited with her and is at peace.

Besides his parents and his wife, Michael was predeceased by his brother, Martin.

Michael is survived by daughter, Karen (Harold) and their children, Jordan (Justine), Keigan and Rayne; great granddaughter, Braislyn; daughter, Michelle (Richard) and their children, Kory and Samantha; brother, Ron; sisters-in-law, Anne, Bernadette and Sally as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr. D’Intino and Dr. Abboud and the many nurses at Hospice. Your compassion, empathy and strength towards Michael and Karen was a gift that will be cherished and held close to heart.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton.

Sleep well Dad and kiss Mommy for me.
