Sydney

It is with great sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing our mother, Edith ‘Edie’ Marie (Antinello) Fifield, on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, surrounded by her family. It gives us peace to know that mom is now reunited with our dad, Alvin, who was the love of her life.

Mom was the strongest, most selfless person. Family was everything. Her love for us knew no boundaries.  Mom took care of every one of us…always. She was at her happiest when our family was together, while she served up her lasagna, or a pot of spaghetti with apple pie and her famous chocolate chip cookies.   We were so fortunate to have had the whole family together this past summer. We have a lifetime of beautiful memories and lots of laughter that we will cherish forever.

Edie was born in Whitney Pier where she and Dad raised our family.  She was a devoted mother, who returned to work when her children got older.  She worked at Hudson’s Bay, then at the Whitney Credit Union where she stayed until her retirement.

Mom loved to be surrounded by people.  She had a love for travel, a good shopping trip, afternoons at the casino, and a friendly game of cards and Rummoli.

Mom is survived by her three children, Susan (Lee) Stewart, Wayne (Paula) Fifield, Debra (Geoff) MacLeod, all of Sydney; the pride of her life, her grandchildren,  Christopher (Chantell) Stewart, PEI, Megan (Alex) Illar, Pittsburgh, Brandon (Katie) Stewart, Sydney, Benjamin and Nicholas MacLeod, Sydney, Faith Pyke, Sydney;  great grandchildren, Fiona Stewart, Norah and Barret Illar; siblings, Jeanette (Walter) Chapman, Sydney; Joseph (Barbara) Antinello, Hamiliton, Elizabeth Chambers,  Massachusetts, Eric (Carol) Antinello, Hamilton; her cherished niece, Lisa (Stephen) Leblanc, Sydney; her lifelong friend, Simon (Helen) Dodick, Sydney and Kim MacNeil, Sydney, who she loved dearly.

Mom was predeceased by our dad, Alvin; our grandparents, Joseph and Mary Jane Antinello and her brother, James (Sally) Antinello.

Our family would like to thank all of mom’s caregivers, from City Homemakers, the VON, Palliative Care and all of her ever-thoughtful friends and neighbors.

Mom, thank you for all the laughs, and unconditional love.  Thank you for being there for us when you couldn’t even be there for yourself.  Thank you for persevering every day, for wearing a smile on your face throughout your pain.  Until we meet again, we love you.
