Louisbourg

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we, the family of Michael Dennis Burke, announce his sudden passing on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, in Louisbourg.

Born on February 24, 1948, in Little Lorraine, Dennis was the son of Sylvester and Susan (Kennedy) Burke.

The oldest of eight children, Dennis is survived by his soulmate and loving wife of 54 years, Mary Sue (MacDonald) Burke. He was “Dad” to Travis (Wavey), Richard (Deanna), and Dwayne (Pam). He was “Poppy” to TJ (Jillian), Bryden (Kayla), Kelsey, Colton (Jackie), Andrew (Bryanna), Mitchell (Mary), Bailey (Ethan), Brea, and Gavin. He was “Great-Poppy Dennis” to Chase, Clara, Keadon, Wyatt, Caleb, Leah, and Lucas.

Dennis is also survived by siblings, Helen (Charlie), Joey (Linda), Billy (Denise), Terry (Donna), Maurice (Maureen), Anita (Michael), and Mary (Stan). Also survived by siblings-in-law, Jackie (Patsy), Lauchie (Irene), Rita (Fabian), Bert (Clarisse), Margie (Danny), Kenny (Laurie), and Debbie (Lawrence). He is also survived by daughter-in-law, Yvette Burke; sisters-in-law, Hellie, and Mary; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Dennis was predeceased by his mother and father-in-law, Daniel and Sadie (Ley) MacDonald and brothers-in-law, Walter and Clifford.

Dennis lived his whole life for his family. He loved nothing more than to spend time with and take care of the people he loved. He spent most of his life working in the fishing industry. The boys sure are going to miss his homemade bread, once lobster fishing season starts. He’ll be missed by all his friends in Louisbourg on his early morning drives. We know he’s gone but he won’t be far because he would’ve run out of gas.

Memorial service to celebrate the life of Dennis Burke will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Sunday, November 27, 2022, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Following the service there will be reception at the funeral home.

For those unable to attend, Live Streaming will be available on our website.

Donations in memory of Dennis may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
