Victoria Mines

It is with great sorrow that we, the family, announce the passing of Claude Alexander MacLeod on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born on November 21, 1944, in Sydney, Claude was the son of the late David Hartigan MacLeod and Catherine (Huntley) MacLeod.

Claude was happiest being near or on the water and had a passion for fishing. He was a fisherman for many years before returning to the Canadian Coast Guard, from which he retired after 32 years. Claude was a proud member of Branch 138 of the Royal Canadian Legion and a retired volunteer of the South Bar Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed his time spent on the north shore camping and while there added to his massive old photo collection with his own captures. Living in South Bar/Victoria Mines his entire life, Claude made many wonderful friends who loved and supported him to the end. He never missed an opportunity to visit with family and friends.

Claude is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lenora (Pidge Burke) MacLeod; daughter, Claudette Welsh; grandsons, Christian and Carter; great-granddaughter, Destry; brothers-in-law, Peter and David; sisters-in-law, Catherine, Delores (Terry), Kate, Jessie, Marion, and Diane; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Claude was predeceased by brothers, Dave, and Robbie; sister, Peggy; brothers-in-law, Sonny, Joe, Sandy, Manzie, Darrell, Don and sisters-in-law, Elsie and Marlene.

Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Claude MacLeod will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Wednesday, October 19, 2022. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 3 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Private family interment will take place at a later date.

Donations in memory of Claude may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
