Ben Eoin/Whitney Pier

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family announce the sudden passing of Darren MacLeod, 53, on Friday, September 2, 2022, in Ben Eoin.

Born September 9, 1968, in Sydney, Darren was the son of Graham and the late Evie (MacDonald) MacLeod.

Darren is survived by sons, DJ Butler (Hannah) and Christopher Butler (Robyn); brothers, Todd (Carolyn) and Scott (Denise); his three beautiful grandchildren whom he adored, Evelyn, Max and Luke and another baby girl on the way; niece, Christine Phalen; nephews, Michael and Connor MacLeod and the mother of his sons, Brenda Butler.

Besides his mother, Darren was predeceased by grandparents, Andrew and Nora (Burke) MacDonald and Lewis and Jenny MacLeod; special aunt and godmother, Teresa MacDonald and nephew, Dillon MacLeod.

Darren was a welder by trade, but his passion was being a mechanic fixing up cars and trucks. He passed this love on to his boys, where his memory will live on with every turn of a wrench. He lived a simple life on his terms and enjoyed his little piece of heaven in Ben Eoin. Darren always had a story to tell and the biggest smile while telling them. Thank you to his best buddies who kept in touch with him over the years, Roger and Gary Copan, Howie Young and Johnie Philips.

Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Darren MacLeod will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Saturday, September 17, 2022. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 3 to 4 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 4 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Interment will take place in Hillcrest Cemetery, South Bar immediately following the service.

Donations in memory of Darren may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
