Sydney

With broken hearts, we, the family of Diane MacDonald regret to announce her passing on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Sydney, Diane was the daughter of the late Victor and Mary (MacIsaac) Barrett.

Our Mom dedicated her entire life to the care of others and would never turn down an opportunity to lend her hand to anyone that needed it. Her family was the center of her life, and she went above and beyond in the care of her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her youthful spirit was always up for fun and adventure often stirring up trouble with her grandchildren. She will be forever missed by anyone she touched.

Diane is survived by her husband of 62 years, John T. MacDonald and children, Darlene (Doug) MacDonald, Denise (Blair) King, Glen (Frances) MacDonald and Pam (Len) Chisholm. Mom was blessed with 10 grandchildren, Barrett (Stacy) MacDonald, Brendon (Chelsea) MacDonald, Melissa (Kevin) Dumontier, Michael (Jenn) Goodwin, Mitch Goodwin, Breanne (PJ) Confiant, Alicia (Tyler) Pyke, and Cameron, Liam and Ryan Chisholm; great-grandchildren, Clark, Lucy, Clara, Jack, Brooks, Peyton, Leo, Nora and Ben; siblings, Mary Warner and Ross (Valerie) Barrett; brother-in-law, Hugh (Charlene) MacDonald and sisters-in-law, Joan MacLean, Anne Marie Gillis, Bernadette (Lucien) Gauthier, Helen (Chuck) Nelson, Margie Mullins, Elaine (Dave) Fischer and Mary Clare (Peter) Langer.

Besides her parents, Diane was predeceased by brothers, Donnie, Wayne, Dennis and Bobby.

A special thanks is extended to the nursing staff and doctors who tended to our mother during her illness at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

There will be no visitation. Only family are invited to attend the Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Diane MacDonald at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Friday, September 9, 2022, at 10 a.m. with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.

Donations in memory of Diane can be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County or the Cancer Patient Care Fund.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
