Sydney

We, the family of Margaret ‘Margie’ Hazel MacDougall regret to announce her passing on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Margie was born in St. Mary’s River in 1936 to the late Muriel and Jack MacDougall. She later moved to New Glasgow, where Margie lived until she graduated from Aberdeen School of Nursing in 1957. Upon graduation she moved to Sydney, where Margie met her future husband, Edward ‘Eddie’ Joseph MacDougall and began her nursing career at St. Rita’s Hospital, Sydney. Margie eventually finished her career retiring from MacGillivray Guest Home.

During Margie and Eddie’s 64 years of marriage, they raised four children, Gordon (Linda) MacDougall, Joyce (Lawrence) O’Brien, Brenda (Todd) Wambolt, and Kevin (Susan) MacDougall. Margie was ‘Grammy’ to 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was a loving sister to Betty MacDonald, Doris MacGillivray, Kay MacDonald, John MacDougall, and predeceased brother, Bill MacDougall and sister, Mary Ross.

Margie was a big sports fan in general and especially, loved her Montreal Canadiens. She spent many years volunteering for the Cape Breton Road Runners while cheering on her husband, Eddie. She also volunteered for St. John Ambulance at the Pier rink. During the summer months Margie would be found on either the Polar Bear Beach or Black Point spending time with her family. She also had many close friends over the year’s playing cards, quilting and sewing.

She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
