Dutch Brook

With broken hearts we, the family, are saddened to announce the passing of Alice (MacKinnon) Wells, who passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2022, surrounded by her family at the age of 77.

Alice will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and sense of humor that made all of us laugh. Mom had the most amazing way of making you feel loved. She would never let you leave her without giving a big hug and kiss, telling you that she loved you. She was an amazing cook and hosted many family and friends in her kitchen over the years.

Alice retired from City Homemakers in 2009 dedicating her life to taking care of others. She cared for many children over the years, including nieces, nephews, and her grandmother, Eliza Ferguson.

Her proudest accomplishments were her three girls and three grandchildren. She cherished the time spent with her loving husband, Ron and loved the life they built over the past 30 years.

Alice was born on October 20, 1944, in Sydney to parents, the late Albert and Florence (Sproson) Mills. Besides her parents, Alice was predeceased by brothers, Albert, Ralph, David, Greg, Gilbert, Herbie Mills and sister, Wendy MacDonald.

Alice is survived by her husband, Ron Wells; three daughters, Debbie (Jeff) Barnes, Lori (Chris) March and Ashley (Nick) Hareguy; three grandchildren, John, Josh and Josie Rey; fur babies, Waylon and Willie; family members, Betty (Billy) Webber, Renee Ryan, Billy (Joan) Mills, George (Lorraine) Mills, Bobby (Heather) Mills; brother-in-law, Lawrence (Linda) Wells; sisters-in-law, Kathleen Hanson, Shelley Mills and Dolly Mills; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and special relatives from England, Peter and Roz Sproson.

A special thank you to Erynn who cared for Mom, the VON, Dr. Hebb and the many doctors and nurses in CCU, ICU and in Palliative Care. Mom’s favorite nurse, without question, was her daughter, Ashley who always made sure Mom received the best of care.

Mom, we will always miss you, Ron and your girls will carry you with us in our hearts. We hope you always feel our arms around you.

Visitation and funeral service to celebrate the life of Alice Wells will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Thursday, March 24, 2022. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 3 to 4 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 4 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Private interment will take place at a later date in Riverview Cemetery, Marion Bridge.

Donations in memory of Alice may be made to the Cancer Patient Care Fund or charity of ones choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
