Middle River

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Alexander Daniel MacRae on Saturday, January 29, 2022.

Born February 16, 1942, in Middle River, Alexander was the son of the late Malcolm and Mary MacRae.

Alexander spent his life in Middle River and raised his family with his loving wife, Jessie (Munro) MacRae, who he is survived by, along with his daughters, Delina Mary (Kevin), Sandra, and Christine (Carl); and the love of his life, ‘Chickadee’, granddaughter, Danielle (Daniel). He is also survived by his sisters, Florence Fitzgerald, Evelyn Etheridge, Milly (Robert) MacLellan, and brother Malcolm (Gail) MacRae; brother-in-law, Gordie Ellis; sister-in-law, Harriet Mitchell; and many nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Alexander was predeceased by his brothers, Roddie, Donald, Eddie, and Neil MacRae; sisters, Rhoda Parsons, Jean Ellis, and twin sister, Mary MacRae.

Alexander was a mechanic by trade and worked at Midway Motors, LNG, and the Department of Highways; and he was always a helper to many. He was known for his wonderful sense of humor, his laughter, and his great love for his family, friends, and every stranger that was lucky enough to cross his path. Toodle loo Alec Mouse, we’ll love you forever.

The family would like to thank the entire 4-D staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their wonderful care. A special thank you goes out to Dr. Jamie Tribo, and long-time family Doctor and friend, Carlyle Chow.

Visitation and funeral service to celebrate the life of Alexander MacRae will be held at the Middle River United Church on Wednesday, February 2, 2022. A gathering of family and friends will take place from noon to 2 p.m. with the graveside service to follow at 2 p.m. at the Middle River Cemetery with Reverend Mary Jo Harrison officiating.

Covid protocols will be practiced at the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Alexander may be made to the Middle River Community Hall or the Middle River Volunteer Fire Department.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
