Catalone

It is with sad and broken hearts that we, the family, regret to announce the passing of Mary Evelyn Peters on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney.

Born on December 29, 1929, in Catalone Gut, Mary was the daughter of the late Samuel and Laura Jane (Thistle) White. She later moved to Catalone on the Louisbourg Hwy, where she spent most of her life.

Mary is survived by three sons, Leo (Allena) Peters, Kenny (Lisa) Peters, and Ricky Peters (Tammy); two daughters, Evelyn Fraser and Sheila Peters; grandchildren, Carlton Peters (Claudine), Maryann Peters (Todd), Cheryl Peters, Scott Fraser, Freddy Fraser, Sylvia (Shaun) Penny, Brian Bags, Kyle Bags (Samantha), Hillary Peters, Holly Peters (Fabian), and Ryan (Jessica) Peters; 18 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Mary was preceded by her husband, Leo who was in the Merchant Marines, and was rescued off Halifax in 1942, when his ship sank in a storm; brother, Edward White; sisters, Pearl Dicks, Lucy May French, Celica MacDonald and Rhoda (Joe Campbell) ; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mom was a great mother. We loved her very much and will miss and always remember her. Mary was the last surviving member of the White family who originally came from Newfoundland way back in the early 1900`s.

At this time the family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and care givers at Harbourstone for taking such good care of mom for the last 10 years.
