Sydney
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father and brother, Jackie. He left this world peacefully at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility, in Sydney on Sunday September 20, 2020, at the age of 81.
Born in Tarbotvale, Victoria County on September 24, 1938, Jackie was the son of the late Archie and Margaret (MacPhee) Carmichael of Ben Eoin.
Jack lived for spending time with family and friends whom he cherished. He loved going to the horse races, watching jeopardy, travelling, and lending a hand whenever needed. He had big heart and was unwavering with his time. The phrase was simple “call Jack”. If you needed help, Jack was there. He will always be remembered as the man with many skills. His career spanned many years as a millwright, a carpenter and a mechanic, but above all a great man. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
Jackie is survived by his daughter, Marlene (Kevin) Ratchford; granddaughter, Tiffany Ratchford (Mylie Wilson); his pride and joy, great-grandson, Caleb; two sisters, Phyllis Youden in Manitoba and Carol (Danny) MacLellan of East Bay; brother, Archie (Shirley) Carmichael; sisters-in-law, Charlene Carmichael in Ontario and Charmaine Carmichael of Sydney; as well as many treasured nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Besides his parents, Jack was predeceased by his beloved wife, Margaret (MacDougall) Carmichael, who won his heart. They were married on May 2, 1980 and shared a beautiful life together; four brothers, Bernie (Louise), Roddie (Connie), Elmer and Roy; sisters, Marie Cameron, Flo (William) Johnston, Dena (Donald) Johnston and brother-in-law, Ron Youden.
We the family would like to take this time and extend special thanks to the staff of Harbourstone whom cared for Jack in his time of need.
Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Jackie Carmichael will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.) Whitney Pier on Friday, September 25, 2020. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 3 – 5 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 5 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Private family interment will take place at a later date.
Donations in memory of Jackie may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
