Baddeck

We, the family, are heartbroken to share the loss of Muriel Reid (MacKillop) Kaiser, age 89. She passed away peacefully at Alderwood in Baddeck on Sunday, May 6, 2018, surrounded by family, just 17 days before her 90th birthday.

Muriel was the daughter of Malcolm and Mary Ann (Minnie) MacKillop and devoted wife of John Kaiser for 68 years.

Muriel is survived by her husband and soul mate, John; children, Malcolm (Anne), Dan (Glenda), Anna Marie (Rick), Kathy (Darrell), Wilfred (Cheryl) and Jane (Angus); grandchildren, Marshall (Kim), Joshua (Erin), Jared, Angus (Krista), Tena, Sarah (Steve), Jessica (Gordon), Alexander, Emma Rose (Niles), Calum (Amy), John Charles (Mairi), Katherine, James, Melissa and Daniel, and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Murdock (Margie); one sister, Florence; brother-in-law, Wilfred (Yvonne); sisters-in-law, Pat and Evelyn, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Besides her parents, Muriel was predeceased by her sisters, Norrie (Alex), Katherine ‘Dewey’ (Joe), Tena (Len) and Daisy (Sandy); brothers, Norman (Marion), James (Peggy), Gussie (Giselle), Allan and Ian, and brothers-in-law, Harris, Marshall, Ralph (Ruth) and Jake (Cammie).

Muriel attended Business School in Sydney, where she met John. They married and moved to Baddeck, where they raised six children and lived many happy years together. Mom was a member of the Baddeck Bay Hospital Auxiliary, Knox Presbyterian Church, Alderwood Working Council, Alexander Graham Bell Club, among others. She loved researching and compiling genealogy, walking beaches, picnics, and going for drives anywhere with Dad. Mom’s insatiable curiosity was fed through travel locally and to far flung parts of the world. Family dinners, her garden and Christmas were all very special to her. The joy of mom’s life was her connection to family and friends and we have all been blessed to have her in our lives. Muriel has been a wonderful inspiration to us all.

In honouring Mom’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral. Instead we will have a celebration of her life. Come join us please on Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Knox Presbyterian Church Hall, Grant Street, Baddeck.

Our family profusely thanks Dr. Chow for his many years of tending Mom’s health concerns, Dr. Ellerker for his care while Mom was at Seaview Manor, and recently, Dr. Beaton and Dr. Ritter. Thank you to Rev. Brian MacLeod and the entire church community, for your support. Mom was always so proud of Baddeck and we appreciate the support we are experiencing now from all.

We thank all staff at Seaview Manor who welcomed Mom and Dad with open arms, making them a part of that special family. Mom was blessed with excellent staff in all her hospital experiences; thank you all. Finally, we thank everyone at Alderwood; another special family. Your care for Mom, Dad and all of us is deeply appreciated. All the care was exceptional!

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Muriel may be made to any local charity of one’s choice. Internment will take place at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

Send an online condolence.

Our love and Prayers are with all of you at this sad time. Muriele was one of my favorite relatives and even though we have been far apart for many years I often thought of her and John, theirs was a true love story. One of my fondest memories is of the night Kathy was born, Junior and I were out driving and stopped at the house in Baddeck Bay for a visit, it was a big surprise to find Muriel in labour and John not at home, we drove her to the hospital and Junior went in to get her admitted, a short time later he came running out to say the baby had been born already, we were so excited to have been part of that special day. Her beautiful smile and friendship will always have a special part in my heart.
Love to all; Catherine Anne and Robert
