It is with deep sadness, we, the family of Kevin Young, announce his passing on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at home, surrounded by his loving family, after a long illness.
 
Born on October 31, 1951 in Whitney Pier, Kevin was the son of the late Ralph ‘Shinny’ Young and Agnes Power.
 
After his retirement from Sydney Steel, Kevin spent many happy years in Mira with his constant companions, Cosmo and P.I.T.A. chasing after him. Kevin loved to spend time with family and friends, listening to music and sharing stories. Kevin was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish in Whitney Pier and Branch 128 Royal Canadian Legion. He will be missed by his many friends on the Mira and in the Pier.
 
Kevin is survived by his children, Tracey (Tommy Tubrett), Barbie, Bradley and Kori (Colin); grandchildren, Ryan, Bailey, Breagh, Jaimelyn, Michael, Elizabeth, Leah, and Brayden;  great grandchildren, Carley, Ryleigh, and Allison. He is also survived by his twin sister, Karen (John MacLean); sister, Connie (Gary Murphy); brothers, Jerry and Terry (Helen) and by a large extended network of family and friends 
 
Besides his parents, Kevin was predeceased by his brother and lifelong friend, Tony Young.
 
Visitation for the late Kevin Young will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at the Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 10 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier, with Fr. Alex MacLellan officiating. Following the Mass, a reception will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home. Private family interment will take place at a later date.
 
Donations in memory of Kevin may be made to Boys & Girls Clubs of Cape Breton – Whitney Pier Youth Club or the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
 
Funeral Arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
