Whitney Pier

With broken hearts, we, the family, regret to announce the death of our son, brother, father and grandson, Jason Richard Tubrett, September 1, 1982 – January 10, 2018, as the result of a tragic motor vehicle accident in Cape Breton on Wednesday, January 10, 2018.

Jason was a military veteran who served ten years and two tours in Afghanistan and retired in 2016. He came back to Cape Breton to start a new chapter of his life and although there were many challenges, he seemed to finally be overcoming them. The priorities in Jason’s life were his children, whom he loved and cherished with all of his heart. Jason volunteered with the veterans group MFT (Marijuana for Trauma) as he suffered from PTSD and very much loved to help others who were dealing with similar issues.

Thank you to all who tried to help Jason with special thanks to Trevor Bungay and the Trauma Healing Centre.

Jason is survived by his children, Faith Ann Elizabeth and Jason ‘Logan ’; father, John; mother, Janine (McCabe); brother, Ryan; former wife, Candace; companion, Alisa MacKenzie and her daughter, Aislin and son, Spencer and grandmother, Theresa Tubrett. Jason is also survived by his aunts and uncles, Gary (Shirley) McCabe, Shaun (Beverly) McCabe, Heather Sampson, Denyse (TC) Norton, Thom (Anita) McCabe, Dana (Cheryl Tighe) McCabe, Wendy (Stan) Cheung, Leanne McCabe (Wes Bonnell), Rick (Sharon) Tubrett, Michael (Susan) Tubrett, Roger (Rhoda) Tubrett, and Susie Curran;  several cousins including his best friend, Alicia Paul and his goddaughter, Kallie Paul; best friend, Chris Theriault and godson, Christian; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Jason was predeceased by his grandparents, Jack and Flossie McCabe and Gorman Tubrett and Uncles, Brian McCabe and Derek McCabe.

As per Jason’s wishes, he will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Donations in Jason’s memory may be made to PTSD Awareness.

Those we love remain with us
For love itself lives on
And cherished memories never fade
Because a loved one is gone
Those we love can never be more
Than a thought apart
For as long as there is memory
They live on in our heart.

Send an online condolence.
