Whitney Pier

It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Rita Hareguy on Friday, Mar. 18, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Born in Cambridge, Mass, USA, Rita was the daughter of the late Edward and Margaret (Whalen) Carew.
She was the last member of her immediate family.

Rita lived her whole life in Whitney Pier. She was an avid bingo player and will be missed by her many friends especially, Haddie O’Rourke. Rita’s home was always welcoming, she loved people to visit and she loved to entertain. Rita will be missed by all who knew her.

Rita is survived by her children, Ken (Jean) Carew, Jean (Brent) Pushie, and Joe (Darlene) Hareguy; eight grandchildren, Michael, Michelle, Doug, Kim, Kelly, Krista, Angie and Joel; 13 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Pearl (Fred) Clark; many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, across Canada and the United States.

Besides her parents, Rita was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Hareguy, son, Raymond in infancy, grandson, Joseph, sisters, Mary Murphy and Dorothy Margettie, brother, Bernard Carew and two brothers in infancy.

There will be no visitation for the late Rita Hareguy. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, Mar. 22, 2016, at 10 a.m.  in Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Following the mass a reception will be held in the lower level of the church. A private family interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donation in memory of Rita may be made to the Holy Redeemer Building Fund.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

“God has her in his keeping. We have her in our hearts.”
