It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, Mary Fedorowych, 94, on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility, Sydney.

Mary was born on Dec. 23, 1921 in Ukraine, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna Hlynialuk.

Mary was a hard worker. In her earlier years, Mary moved to Germany in 1942 as an interpreter for the Canadian Consulate, for she was fluent in speaking four languages. After WWII, Mary moved to Canada on May 22, 1949 in Quebec and later that year moved and settled here, in Sydney. In Sydney, she worked for a lawyer, started a family and later worked for Ellerbrok Nurseries for 28 years before retiring.   Mary loved life for she enjoyed cooking and embroidering. She was a member of Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic parish. Mary will be remembered by family and friends for being very caring and giving to those in need.

Mary is survived by her two sons, Peter, Ernie and a granddaughter, Leah; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband, Dmytro Fedorowych and two brothers, Michael and Peter.

Visitation for the late Maria ‘Mary’ Fedorowych will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016 at the Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) from 6-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016 at 10 a.m. in Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, Whitney Pier, with Fr. Roman Dusanowskyj officiating. Interment will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney, at a later date.

Donations in memory of Mary may be made to Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
