It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father and brother, John Francis ‘Doughboy’ Conohan, 69, on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015, at home.

Born in Sydney, John was the son of the late John Francis Sr. and Rachel (MacKenzie) Conohan.

Family was everything to John. He gave 25 years of service to Bill Lynch Carnival before retiring. His passion was working in his garage fixing anything that had a motor in it. John loved playing darts and watching baseball especially, Toronto Blue Jays. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting with his good friends. John will be remembered by his family and friends for being a fun loving man.

John is survived by his two children, Greg (Tracey) and Kelly; four granddaughters, two grandsons and a great-grandson. He is also survived by brothers, Joe (Stella), Ont., Fred (Marsha), Sydney, David (Sandy), Ont., Alphonse, Sydney, and Tom (Rose); sisters, Kay (John) Violande, Mary Jacobs and Rose (Basil) Kulczycki; special friends, Joan, Frankie and Glennie; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his brothers, Bill, Jim, George and Guy; sisters, Lena and Maureen; brother-in-law, Jake and sisters-in-law, Delores and Charlotte.

By John’s request there will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015, at 10 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Following the mass a reception will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home. A private family interment will take place at a later date.

Donations in memory of John may be made to the Holy Redeemer Building Fund.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
