It is with sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Lloyd ‘Lee’ Thomas Bennett, 77, on Friday, May 8, 2015, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Sydney, Lee was the son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Hannam) Bennett.

Lee enjoyed the simple things in life. He worked most of his life for the Canadian Forces Station Sydney, maintenance dept., and retired in 1992. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, as well as going for car drives in beautiful Cape Breton. Lee will be remembered by his family and friends for his determination and being set in his ways.

Lee is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Young) Bennett; sons, Lloyd ‘Buddy’, Sydney, David (Linda), Ottawa, and Kelly, Toronto, and daughters, Raylene, Sydney, and Cheryl (Oakie), Lower Sackville. Lee also leaves behind his nine grandchildren, Michael, Jennifer, Jillian, Joshua, Christopher, Kyle, Janel, Destinee and Shauntelle; five great-grandchildren, Kobe, Sydney, Jeffery, Owen and Tanner; brothers, Bill (Rachael), Allan (Ann), and Tommy (Mary); as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Lee was predeceased by his daughter, Darlene; sisters, Kay, Mildred, Mary, Lillian and a brother, Gordon.

Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Lloyd ‘Lee’ Thomas Bennett will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Tuesday, May 12, 2015. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 12-1 p.m. with service to follow at 1 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Light refreshments will be served in the reception area following the service. Private family interment will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lee may be made to a charity of your choice.
The Bennett family is thankful for the kindness shown by Dr. Greg Myatt and his staff, Janice Black and Laura Walkers. We would also like to thank the nursing staff on 4B at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the care given to Lee during his time of need.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

Send an online condolence.
