It is with sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Nora Teresa ‘Terri’ Troke on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. 

Born in Sydney, Terri was the daughter of the late Thomas and Frances Claire (Dawe) Fennell.  She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Terri began work with Maritime Tel and Tel in Halifax in the 1940s. She continued in this industry in Ontario, until 1955.  Following, she joined with "Sisters of Charity" in Halifax. She remained a Sister of Charity until 1968. Terri then worked with the Halifax city school board, until she retired. Terri married John ‘Jack’ Troke and the couple lived in South Bar. Terri volunteered for the Red Cross and the S.P.C.A in Sydney. She was a devoted member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Parish in Whitney Pier following the closure of St. Alphonsus, in Victoria Mines. Terri remained an avid "Bridge enthusiast", travelling to tournaments, and achieving a gold level in play. Terri will be missed by all who knew her.

Terri is survived by her two stepsons, Robert Troke and Brian (Laura) Troke; step-grandchildren, Brian, Laura, Kelly Robert, Karri, Riley, Kara and five step-great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Terri was predeceased by her husband, John ‘Jack’ Troke and 13 siblings.

Visitation for the late Nora Teresa ‘Terri’ Troke will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014 at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street), from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to celebrate the life of Terri will be held on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014, at 11 a.m. in Pier Community Funeral Home, All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will take place in St. Alphonsus Cemetery, Victoria Mines. Light refreshments will be served in the funeral home reception area following the committal. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Terri may be made to SPCA or Holy Redeemer Building Fund.

The family would like to convey their appreciation to the staff at the Cape Breton Cancer Clinic, Palliative Care, Victoria Order of Nurses, as well as, Cape Breton Regional Hospital and Dr. Danuta Kajetanowicz. Special thanks to extended family and friends who provided their support and caring during Terri’s time of need.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
