56, Whitney Pier / Sydney

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our dear son, brother, uncle and friend, John Clarence Bona on Friday, Dec. 26, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his family and friends.

Born in Whitney Pier, John was the son of Clarence and Florence (Fanning) Bona.

John lived at Resicare for years where he was happy and well loved. He loved all the Resicare staff, Handi-trans drivers, and the VON, whom became part of John’s extended family.

John lived a simple life. He loved his magazines, DVDs, big trucks and music, especially Johnny Cash and Charlie Pride. He would never turn down a handshake, hug or a good cup of cappuccino. John will be missed by all his family and many friends that loved him.

Besides his parents, John leaves to mourn his brothers, twin Joey (Valetta), Jimmy (Sharon) and Jerry (Kim); sisters, Lillian Campbell (Eldin), Anne Bereziuk (Roddy), Marie Chiasson, Clarisse MacDonald (Bert), Rosalie Usher (Billy) and Eileen Bona (Dale); as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

John was predeceased by his grandparents, Ernest and Libby Bona and Gerald and Lillian Fanning, sister, Gloria Hennick, nephew, baby Troy Allen and brother-in-law, Eddie Chiasson.

Visitation for the late John Clarence Bona will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014, at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street), from 5-8 p.m. Funeral service to celebrate the life of John will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Pier Community Funeral Home, All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Light refreshments will be served in the funeral home reception area following the service. Private family interment will take place in new Calvary Cemetery, Whitney Pier, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to charity of one’s choice.

Special thanks to all the staff at Resicare for their wonderful care and love given to John over the years. Thanks to the wonderful staff at Handitrans and the VON for the help given to John during his lifetime. Thank you to Dr. Curry for his help in the emergency room of the CBRH.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

Send an online condolence.
