It is with sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Catherine Marie Koleszar on Monday, Sept. 15, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her husband, children and best friend, Audrey.

Born in Sydney, Catherine was the daughter of the late Edmond and Sophia (MacKinnon) English.

Catherine was a member of Holy Redeemer parish, Whitney Pier. Catherine was a loving and devoted wife and mother, who dedicated most of her life caring for her family. She loved and enjoyed going for long drives, knitting and crocheting. Her biggest joy was being with her grandchildren. Catherine will be remembered by her family and friends for being loving, kind hearted and for always having her door open for those in need.

Catherine is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Joe Koleszar; four children, George (Tracey) Koleszar, Roseanna (Glenn) Poirrier, Kelly (Sharon Stubbard) Koleszar and Anna (Kenny McPhee) Koleszar; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Emmaline and brothers, Howie and Edmond.

Besides her parents, Catherine was predeceased by her sister, Annabelle and brother, George.

Visitation and funeral service to celebrate the life of Catherine Marie Koleszar will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 10-11 a.m. with service to follow at 11 a.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Light refreshments will be served in the reception area following the service. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

Donations in memory of Catherine may be made to Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County.

The family gives thanks to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, palliative care unit, for the care given to Catherine during her time of need. A special thank you goes to Catherine’s daughter, Anna and grandson, Devin for taking mom in their home during her last days of care.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
