It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of their aunt, Mary Catherine Corbett on Friday, Aug. 29, 2014 at The Cove Guest Home, Sydney, where she had resided for the past five years.

Born in Holyrood, Nfld., on Dec. 12, 1929, Kay was the daughter of the late Bartholomew and Catherine (Healey) Corbett.

Kay was a member of Holy Redeemer parish. She worked for a number of years at MacLeod’s Book Store and later at Maclean industrial Supplies. Kay will be remembered by family and friends as a kind and caring person.

Kay is survived by her sister, Theresa MacLean; sister-in-law, Gertie Corbett and a large number of nieces and nephews and their families.

Besides her parents, Kay was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Corbett and Anastasia Cuddihy and brothers, Bill, Bart and Ambrose.

In accordance with Kay’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Redeemer Church on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014, at 11 a.m. with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Light refreshments will be served following the mass at Pier Community Funeral Home, reception area. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

As an expression of sympathy, donations in Kay’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to The Cove Guest Home, in particular the staff of Skylight unit for their kindness, compassion and friendship during Kay’s time at The Cove. A special thank you as well, to Marilyn and Warren Zisserson for their many years of support and friendship.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
