The family of Ronald Joseph Crawley regrets to announce his passing on Monday, July 14, 2014, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Sydney, Ronald was the son of the late Joseph and Bridget (Brophy) Crawley.

Ronald was a hardworking family man. He worked for 37 years at the Sydney Steel plant, Open Hearth before retiring. His hobby was doing work on the house. Ronald will be remembered by family and friends for helping others in need and always having a story to tell.

Ronald is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Elaine MacDougall and Debbie Costello (Gordie); stepchildren, Darlene MacPhee (Brooks) and Wanda Hogan (Bernie); grandchildren, Ronald (Amber), Angela, David (Leanne) and Kimberly (Rick); step-grandchildren, Tyler, Matthew, Neil and Jared; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Hannah, Sarah, David and Abbigail; daughter in-law, Coleen; sisters, Mamie (Teddy), Germaine and Patricia; brother, Terry; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Ronald was predeceased by his first wife, Delores Marie (Gushue), son, Ronald Francis, brothers, Albert, Cyril and Billy.

Visitation for the late Ronald Joseph Crawley  will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street), from 5-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 17, 2014, at 11 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Following the mass a reception will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

Donations in memory of Ronald may be made to Holy Redeemer Building Fund, Hospice Palliative Society of Cape Breton County or charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
