53, Port au Choix/Glace Bay

It is with great sadness that we, the family announce the passing of Raymond ‘Ray’ Whalen on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at the Glace Bay Hospital, with his family by his side.

Born in Glace Bay, Ray was the son of the late James ‘Jr’ Whalen.

Ray was a hard worker and loved the outdoors. He owned and operated Muscles & Trucks Handyman Services, provided services throughout Cape Breton before passing it down to his family. Ray was a private man and treated people the way people treated him. He loved to travel and his favourite place of all was the Cabot Trail. Ray will be remembered by family and friends for being unpredictable and strong with lots of will-power.

Ray leaves behind his son, Raymond and three angels, Robin, Kayla and Tierney; grandson, Chance James; very close cousin, Linda 'Donna' (Boone) Grant and aunt, Joan Boone; as well as many nieces, nephews and good friends.

Cremation has taken place and a private family gathering to celebrate the life of Raymond ‘Ray’ Whalen will take place at a later date.

Donations in memory of Ray may be made to Hospice/Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Glace Bay Hospital for the care given to Ray during his time of need.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

Send an online condolence.
