83, Whitney Pier

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother, Utah Marie McLean on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on April 19, 1931, in New Waterford, Utah was the daughter of the late James ‘Jim’ and Annie (Gallant) Nearing.

Family was everything to Utah. She loved knitting slippers, making homemade bread, playing bingo and watching her favourite baseball team, the NY Yankees. Utah will be remembered by family and friends as being a wonderful and amazing woman.

Utah leaves behind her children, Raymond (Sandy), Kevin, David, Steven (Wanda), Anna (Leo), Beth (Darryl), Robert (Mona), Tim and Maureen (Gary); stepchildren, Debbie, Michael, Wanda, Gary and Greg; sisters, Jean, Anna, Violet and Caroline and brothers, Raymond and Charlie. She is also survived by many wonderful grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Utah was predeceased by her husband, Michael McLean, infant daughter, Elizabeth, daughter, Darlene, and brothers, Henry, Jimmy and Myles.

Visitation and funeral service to celebrate the life of Utah Marie McLean will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Friday, May 30, 2014. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 10-11 a.m. with service to follow at 11 a.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Light refreshments will be served in the reception area following the service. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

Donations in memory of Utah may be made to charity of one’s choice.

The family gives much thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Intensive Care Unit, for the care given to Utah during her time of need.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
