The family of John Edward Kirk Hart are saddened to announce his peaceful passing on March 12, 2014, at the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital, Inverness.

Born in St. Catharines, Ont. on March 1, 1942, Kirk was the son to the late Lewis and Maud (Murray) Hart.

Kirk was a member of the Mabou Hillsborough United Church. He was a hard worker in the construction trade in various provinces within Canada. Kirk was a member of four unions, UA Local 46, Toronto, U.A. Local 244 Plumbers and Pipefitters, Antigonish, International Brotherhood of Teamsters 362 Local, Edmonton and Local 962, Halifax. He loved the outdoors especially, fishing and hunting partridge. Most of all, Kirk loved spending time with his granddaughters.

Kirk is survived by his only daughter, Debbie Hart, Bras d’Or; granddaughters, Megan (Jordan Bushell) Hart, Fort McMurray, and Shelby Hart, at home; former spouse, Maureen (MacPherson) Hart, Mabou; brothers, Brian (Ann), Mabou, and Roger, Port Hawkesbury, N.S.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Kirk was predeceased by his brother, Murray and sister-in-law, Rhona.

In accordance with Kirk's wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation and funeral. A private family interment will take place at Elmwood Cemetery, Hillsborough, N.S. at a later date.

Donations in memory of Kirk may be made to The Cape Breton Cancer Centre Patient Care Fund or Central Inverness Palliative Care Society.

We would like to thank Dr. Miller and nursing staff of Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Dr. Bennett, Nurse Practitioner, Mary Anderson, nurses and support staff at the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital for the care given to Kirk during his time of need. Special thanks as well to John Raymond MacEachern and family for always being there and being so great to Kirk.

Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
