Sydney
Ann Marie McNabb (Drohan) beloved wife of Peter (Sandy) McNabb and daughter of Mary Bridget and the late Charles Drohan passed into eternity peacefully at home on March 31, 2014, with her loving husband by her side.
Ann Marie was a graduate of Sydney Academy and Dalhousie University. In her younger years she played basketball in high school and at the University of Kings College. She was employed at Citizenship and Immigration, retiring in 2000. Ann Marie was an outgoing and friendly person who enjoyed travelling and going to the beach, in particular her favourite beach, Kennington Cove. Since their retirement Ann Marie and Sandy enjoyed many good times together travelling and seeing new places. She was a devoted family person and to Ann Marie, her family was a very important part of her life. Ann Marie also had a great love for animals.
Besides her husband and mother, Ann Marie is survived by her much loved only daughter, Shannon Bridget; brothers, Ray, Chuck (Patsy), Gerry (Arlene), Donnie, Terry and her only sister, Patricia Miller (Donnie). She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Nancy Drohan, Shirley Ross (John), Judy MacDonald, Susan McNabb and brother-in-law, Kent McNabb (Cathy). Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins are left to mourn her passing, but in particular her beloved goddaughter, Jenna Pinhorn of Calgary, Alta. Ann Marie was like a second grandmother to Jenna’s two boys, Cole and Caden, whom she loved very much.
Besides her father, Ann Marie was predeceased by her brother, Alison; brothers-in-law, Robert McNabb and James MacDonald; uncles, Jack and Phil O’Rourke and niece, Sara Drohan.
There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be celebrated at Holy Redeemer Church on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Following the service a reception will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home.
Donations to the Cape Breton S.P.C.A. in Ann Marie’s memory would be appreciated.
The family would like to thank the nurses in the An Cala unit and the nurses of the Victorian Order. Without the support of the An Cala unit and the VON, it would not have been possible for Ann Marie to go home and spend her last days in comfort with her husband.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

Sandy and Shannon, it is with the heaviest of hearts I write this message. I first met Ann Marie while waiting to be interviewed for a position with Citizenship and Immigration. From the first moment we met I felt like I was talking to an old friend. I was very blessed to not only be successful in getting employment but also to work in the same unit with Ann Marie. I worked with her from 1983 to 1986. I have many fond memories of Ann Marie and feel so very blessed to have been able to reconnect with her upon my return to Cape Breton in 2008. She loved her family very much and adored her husband and daughter. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. GOD Bless you Ann Marie. Thanks for the memories, love Joanne (McLean) Trainor.
