71, Whitney Pier

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father and husband, Edgar ‘Jake’ Jacobs on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Sydney, Jake was the son of the late Matthew and Levenia (Newell) Jacobs.

Family was everything to Jake. He gave 33 years of service to CBRM, Water Department as heavy equipment operator before retiring. He was a member of Holy Redeemer parish. Jake loved hockey and baseball and playing darts. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed watching nature programs on TV. Jake will be remembered by his family and friends for being a fun loving man.

Jake is survived by the love of his life, Mary (Conohan); daughters, Mary Ann (John) Atkinson, Della (Derek Moore) and Corina (Kevin) Fleet; son, Edgar ‘Jakie’ and Marty (Treena); five grandsons; five granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Ted (Sharon), Harry (Carol), Matty (Theresa) and George; sisters, Marie, Winn and Hilda (Melvin); as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Jake was predeceased by his brothers, Joe, Gordie and Frank and a sister, Lorraine.

By Jake’s request there will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Following the mass a reception will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home. A private family interment will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date.

Donations in memory of Jake may be made to the Holy Redeemer Building Fund.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
