It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Anna Hayes on Friday, January 24, 2014, at the Seaview Manor, Glace Bay.

Born in Sydney, on June 13, 1927, Anna was the daughter of the late George and Margaret (White) Gushue.

Anna loved spending her summers in Islandview at her bungalow and playing bingo with her friends. She could always be found sitting with a book and a cup of tea in her hands.

Besides her parents, Anna was predeceased by her loving husband, Leo, sisters, Theresa, Madeline and Bernice and brothers, Cyril, Michael, Ronald, and George.

Anna is survived by her daughter, Dawn, Sydney; sons, Edward, Sydney, Leo, Calgary and John, Edmonton; granddaughters, Jennifer, Blayr, Trisha and Morgan; grandsons, Jason, Jeffery, Chad, Dylan, and Evan; great-grandchildren Jake, Jenna, Payge, Madison and Sydney; her special niece, Beverly McCabe; special nephew, John Gardiner and brother, James (Helen) Gushue.

Visitation for the late Anna Hayes will be held on Monday, January 27, 2014 at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street), from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to celebrate the life of Anna Hayes will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, at 11 a.m. in Pier Community Funeral Home, All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Light refreshments will be served in the reception area following the service. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

Family flowers only, for donations in Anna's memory can be made to a charity of your choice.

Anna's family would like to extend a special thank you for the exemplary care and friendship provided by the staff at the Seaview Manor.

I am very sorry to see that Anna passed away.She was a wonderful person who always had a smile.  I have many memories of my Pier days and the Hayes Family.  I am sorry that I couldn't attend the wake and service.  My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time.  May God bless and welcome her home with her other loved ones and friends.
