April 23, 1944 – June 12, 2013, Sydney

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Patricia ‘Trish’ Balmas, who passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Born and raised in Whitney Pier, Trish was the daughter of the late Michael and Cecilia (MacDonald) Moore.

Trish is survived by her husband, Frank; sons, Darryl (Sandra), Bradley (Melanie) and Frankie (Christa); and grandchildren, Brett, Mitchell, Kenzie, Ryan, Rachael and Rebecca. She is also survived by sisters, Clara (Terrance McCarron), Carol (Lincoln MacPhee) and Colleen (Michael MacPherson); brothers, Terry (Mary), Brian (Catherine), and Keith; as well as sisters-in-law, Diane Moore and Rosie (Albert Oursen).

Besides her parents, Trish was predeceased by her brothers, Kenny and Gregory and sister Michelle.

Trish’s greatest asset was her family who she truly adored and in return she was loved and admired by all. Trish lived a life of giving and caring for others and there was no limit to her kindness. She will be greatly missed by all of her nieces and nephews for her motherly guidance and support that will carry on throughout their lives.

Also left to mourn Trish’s passing is Albert and Derrick Dupe and the staff of Master Meats where she worked for 32 years, people whom she considered her second family.

Visitation for the late Patricia ‘Trish’ Balmas will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Friday, June 14, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, June 15, 2013, 11 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Following the mass a reception will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Trish can be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Care Patient Fund.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
