It is with broken hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Jerry Petrie on Jan. 29, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loved ones.

Jerry was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.

Born in Sydney, Jerry was the son of the late John and Edith (Antinello) Petrie.

Jerry lived in the Pier most of his life. He was a parishioner of Holy Redeemer parish. After graduating from Eastern Tech in 1971, Jerry started his career at Sydney Steel in the electrical department. Upon retirement, he held a position as general foreman of maintenance in the heavy mills department. Jerry will be remembered by his family and friends as a kind and loving man.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Arlene (Corbett); daughters, Paula Oliver (Kevin) and Shauna Petrie; grandchildren, Keir and Lucy Oliver and brothers, Tony Petrie and John Petrie (Velda).

Funeral mass to celebrate the life of Jerry Petrie will be held Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier, with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Following the mass, light refreshments will be served at the Pier Community Funeral Home in the reception area. A private family burial will take place at a later date.

Donations in memory of Jerry may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

So sad to hear of Jerry’s passing. I have great memories of when we were children and my family would visit Johnny, Eda and the family on Grand Lake Road. My condolences to his family and my regrets that distance and circumstance prevented us getting together these many years that I’ve been away from Sydney. God bless.
