June 10, 1935 – Dec. 20, 2011, Whitney Pier

Our father was called home to heaven after 76 years. With broken hearts we, the family, regret to announce the passing of a dear father and brother on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in Sydney, Mike was the son of the late Dan Joe and Katie Bell (MacDougall) MacIntyre.

Mike was a devoted Catholic and very supportive through committee work with Holy Redeemer parish. Mike was employed at Sydney Engineering Dry Dock prior to giving 28 years of service to Canada Post as a letter carrier, retiring in 1995. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, who loved spending time in Irish Cove with his best friend, Ronald Pearson. Mike always enjoyed his daily walks through the Pier socializing along the way.

Mike is survived by his daughters, Judy MacIntyre, Sydney, Eunice (Maynard) McGuigan, Mira Gut, Kathy MacKinnon, Sydney Forks, Michelle Doucet (Danny McNeil), Coxheath and Jane MacIntyre, Westmount; two special daughters, Joleen MacIntyre, Sydney and Nicole MacIntyre, Grand Prairie, AB; Poppy will be sadly missed by grandchildren, Jeanette, Kyle and Estelle McGuigan, Neil, Kristen, Ryan and Candace MacKinnon, Mike Doucet and Andy and Joshua Garnier; two great-grandsons, Nathan Fudge and Alex Fitzgerald; brother, Raymond (Lee) MacIntyre, Halifax and sister, Helen (Lloyd) MacPherson, Sydney.

Visitation for the late Michael Joseph ‘Duke’ MacIntyre will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Monday, Dec. 26, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass to celebrate Mike’s life will be held Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier, with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will take place in new Calvary Cemetery, Whitney Pier at a later date.

Donations in memory of Mike may be made to charity of choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
