It is with heavy hearts that we, the family announce the passing of Douglas Duncan Urquhart on September 11, 2011, at the Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility, Sydney.

Born in Pleasant Bay, Cape Breton, on August 10, 1927, Douglas was the son of the late Duncan and Christine (MacIntosh) Urquhart.

Douglas left home at the age of 16 to work as a cook in Bay St. Lawrence, and he eventually made his way to Toronto where he lived and worked for many years as a chef for Via Rail. Upon his retirement, Douglas moved back to Pleasant Bay, where he enjoyed many happy years with his dogs, Buffy and Duchess, who were his constant companions. He was a very generous man who supported many charities during his life.

Douglas is survived by his sister, Donna, and brothers, Malcolm (Peggy), Frankie (Eileen), Alex (Cathy), and sister-in-law, Grace.

Besides his parents, Douglas was predeceased by his brother, Chester; brother-in-law, Lauchie and his sister, Patricia, who was joined by Douglas in heaven the same day..

Visitation for the late Douglas Duncan Urquhart will be held at St. Andrews United Church, Pleasant Bay on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to celebrate Douglas’s life will be held Friday, Sept. 16, at 2 p.m. at St. Andrews United Church with Norma Mills, DLM and Fr. Dan MacDonald officiating. Interment will take place in Pleasant Bay Cemetery.

Donations in memory of Douglas may be made to the Pleasant Bay United Church, Cemetery Fund or charity of your choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, Patricia Urquhart on September 11, 2011, at the QEII, Halifax.

Born in Pleasant Bay, Cape Breton, on April 4, 1945, Patricia was the daughter of the late Duncan and Christine (MacIntosh) Urquhart.

Patricia was a classy beautiful woman. She loved gardening and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren.

Patricia is survived by her sons, Dougie (Stephanie) and Darren (Dawn); grandchildren, Scott, MacKenzie, Chase, Jeremy, Joey, Jordan, Makayla and great-grandchildren, Christopher, Sierra and Jace. She is also survived by a sister, Donna; brothers, Malcolm (Peggy), Frank (Eileen) and Alex (Cathy); sister-in-law, Grace; and her two dogs, Nessa and CJ.

Besides her parents, Patricia was predeceased by her brother, Chester; brother-in-law, Lauchie and another brother, Douglas, who joined her in heaven on the same day.
