Born on Aug. 19, 1935, in Sydney, Pat was the son of the late Patrick and Martha (MacDougall) Murphy.

Pat was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish and also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 128. Pat was an avid golfer and could be found on the golf course from May until October, when he turned his attention to his other passion, the Montreal Canadiens.

Pat will be deeply missed by Jean (Neville), his loving wife of 44 years, his daughters, Patricia (Brian) Globe, Bedford, and Denise (Kenny) Coombs, Porters Lake; and his son, Fred, Mabou. He will also be sadly missed by his one and only granddaughter, Emily Kate; brother, John; sisters, Margaret and Bridget; and his uncle, Sam.

Besides his parents, Pat was predeceased by his twin brother, Dennis and his sister, Catherine.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A celebration of Pat’s life will take place on Saturday, August 1, at Holy Redeemer Church at 11 a.m. with Father Errol MacDonald officiating. A reception will follow at the Pier Community Funeral Home. Internment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or the Holy Redeemer Church Building Fund.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of the Pier Community Funeral Home.

Many thanks to Dr. Greg Myatt, Janice Black and also to everyone in the palliative care unit: Dr. Ann Frances D’Intino, Dr. John Ritter and Dr. Lisa Gillis, and the nursing staff, who all treated Pat with compassion and kindness, as if he were one of their own.
