Sydney
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Papa, Abraham Charles Peters of Sydney, on Friday, November 28, 2025, at the age of 92. He passed peacefully, following his wife of 70 years, Ann Marie Peters, only six months after her passing.
Born on January 6, 1933, Abe was the son of the late Simon and Susan Peters. Abe was the last remaining member of his family.
He leaves behind his children, Reg (Trish Larade), and Ann Marie (Peters) Baldwin (John); grandchildren, Jason Peters (Brandie), Sarah (Baldwin) Moore (Richard), Jillian Peters (Lance Laffin), Stacia (Baldwin) Gunn (Neil), and Stefanie Peters (James MacIntyre); six great-grandchildren, Josh and Bria Peters, Hannah and Ivy Moore, and Joy and Faye MacIntyre, who filled his days with love and smiles.
Papa was known for his mischievous sense of humour, his quick wit and his unmistakable one-liners. His sayings were so plentiful and memorable that the family eventually made a book to keep track of them all. Whether he was joking that someone was “full of old rope”, asking about a “doodle daddle”, telling you “if it’s free, take two” or laughing as he recited “here I sit, broken-hearted,” his expressions became part of our family language and are remembered with love.
After Ann Marie’s passing, Abe moved into the home of his daughter Ann Marie and son-in-law John, where he spent his days surrounded by care, comfort and family. He lived with them in Baddeck until he required a short hospitalization.
Abe worked for many years as a steelworker with Sydney Steel Corporation. Outside of work, he was passionate about wood working and loved camping – both seasonally in Ben Eoin and on trips near and far, sitting around a campfire, playing cards and spending time surrounded by family. If music was playing, you can bet he would be dancing, right up to his 90th birthday party! In his later years, Papa kept busy with his word searches and enjoyed every opportunity to gather with loved ones.
There will be no visitation for the late Abraham Peters. Private family memorial service will be celebrated at the Pier Community Funeral Home, with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will be held in New Calvary Cemetery, Whitney Pier.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
