Whitney Pier

It is with great sadness that the family of Guido DeGiobbi, age 88, of Whitney Pier, announce he passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

A proud member of the Whitney Pier community, Guido owned and operated Victoria Lunch for 25 years, where he welcomed friends and neighbors.

Guido was predeceased by his parents, Angelo and Anna (Nemis) DeGiobbi; wife, Beatrice (née MacMullin); sister, Helen Lomax and brother, Louie DeGiobbi.

Guido is survived by his sons, Michael (Janet) and Dean DeGiobbi (Karen Hurley); loving partner, Sylvia LaFrance; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Sally Durando and brothers, Anthony and Leno (Pauline) DeGiobbi.

Guido will be remembered for his love of fishing, hunting, boxing, playing the accordion, and sharing good food with family and friends.

Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Guido DeGiobbi will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Wednesday, November 19, 2025. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 12 noon to 2 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating.

Donations in memory of Guido may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
