New Waterford

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we, family and friends, announce the sudden passing of Tara Lee Bertrand (Lewis) in New Waterford on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at the age of 44.

Tara will be remembered for her big, bright smile that could light up any room, as well as her deep love of singing and dancing – memories of joy she created to be forever cherished. With her sweet nature, kind heart and infectious laugh, Tara made friends wherever she went.

She cared for others with an intensity and warmth that made everyone around her feel special.

To be loved by Tara was a true gift.

In her formative high school years, Tara met her beloved “girls”. A friendship bond that remained close and strong right up to her final days. She also formed many lasting connections through her passion for basketball, a sport she excelled in.

Tara is survived by her sister, Rachel and brother, Trevor (Myra), along with nieces, Ainsley and Madison; nephew, Austin; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Tara is predeceased by her mother, Marion Lewis; father, William ‘Bill’ Lewis, as well as grandparents, Maymie and Rannie MacDonald, Archibald Lewis and Mary (McCarthy) Lewis and Elizabeth (Penny) Lewis.

She is also predeceased by uncle, Ronnie MacDonald; aunts, Donna MacDonald and Anna MacSween (husband Connie); uncle, Neil MacDonald and cousin, Tyler MacDonald.

Tara treasured her family and friends, especially her baby, Khallie Cat, ex-husband, Brian (Ottawa) and her special friend, Jesse in NB, who will miss her sweet gifts of kindness towards him and others.

To honour Tara’s life-long love for animals a donation can be made to the Cape Breton SPCA or your local SPCA in her name.

Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of Pier Community Funeral Home, Sydney.

No visitation will be offered at this time in lieu of a private celebration of life to be held and communicated in 2026.

Tara’s light, laughter, and the love she shared will be carried in our hearts forever.
