Sydney

It is with a great sense of loss that I regretfully announce the passing of my husband, Thomas Patrick ‘Tom’ Lynch, age 75, on Saturday, November 29, 2025.

Born in Sydney, Tom was the oldest son of the late Leo and Lale (Downing) Lynch. He attended Riverview High School and obtained a Commerce Degree from Dalhousie University. After university, Tom moved back to Sydney to run the family business, Ideal Ice Cream, until its closing.

Tom is survived by his wife of 29 years, Donna Marie Lynch; his three daughters, Stacy Spoletini (Kevin) of Calgary, Jennifer Dickerson (Adam) of Middle Sackville, Heather Lynch Oliver (Mike) of Enfield, and their mother, Cathy Lynch; step-daughters, Michelle Blois and her daughter, Peyton Steinkey of Port Coquitlam, BC and Paula Blois Wadden (Jordan) of Bateston. He was Poppy to Luca, Bria, Nora, Maeve and Lachlan. He is also survived by his sisters, Nancy D’Intino (Carmen), Jane Arnold, and brother Bryan Lynch.

Tom and I operated Mac’s Convenience Store on George Street for 38 years and made many lifelong friends.

Tom was a Past President of the Sydney Kinsmen Club and was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 1996. Through Kinsmen and Kinettes, Tom and I became close friends with four other couples and formed a Dinner Club for over 30 years, Walter & Deborah, John & Toni, Bill & Millie, and Shirley (Greg).

In high school Tom and friends formed a band and named it “The ID”. The band consisted of Sam Moon (Richard Boudreau), Bernie Bates, Lou Maroun and Jim O’Neil and Tom was the drummer. He always said those were the best years of his life playing at the YMCA, Sydney Academy and many different coffee houses.

As per Tom’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of Pier Community Funeral Home and there will be no service. A private gathering with family will take place in East Bay at a later date. Our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Oja and Dr. Orrell for their care and compassion.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
