Whitney Pier
December 13, 1953- September 16, 2025
Deborah Elizabeth Moules, age 71, died at home in Whitney Pier surrounded by those who loved her on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, due to complications associated with her third reoccurrence of cancer. Debbie was the daughter of Reginald and Elsie MacNeil and the daughter-in-law to Mary Adele and Clarence Moules.
Debbie is survived by her husband, Eddie Moules; daughters, Tanya Boone, and Kerry Moules; four grandchildren, who were her pride and joy, Samantha, Dylan, Sarah, and Spencer; sisters, Donna, and Darlene; brothers, David, and Bobby; in-laws, Mary ‘Snookie’ (the late James), Bill and Chris, Welsford and Anne-Marie, Marilyn and Donnie, Diane and Melvin, and Harla O’Neill; as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
Besides her parents and in-laws, Debbie was predeceased by her daughter, Kimberley in infancy (January 25 – February 5, 1979) due to heart complications; closest sister, Gloria; brothers, Eddie and Reggie; sister-in-law, Irene, and special nephew, Jim O’Neill.
Debbie first started working at the A&W in Sydney and Antigonish, supporting Eddie while he was completing his Education Degree. In the late 1980’s, Debbie then moved on to become a Teacher Assistant, working in Whitney Pier until she moved to Sydney Academy. At Sydney Academy, she made many friends and loved going to work to see Janis, Sharon, and Donna. Debbie shared many laughs, was up for anything that came her way, and helped and inspired numerous students until she finished her career in 2010. Her times at Sydney Academy created everlasting bonds with friends that became her family.
Debbie had many interests. She loved going to bingo with Vickie and playing tarbish monthly with her regular group of 12 friends. Debbie spent many evenings throughout her years getting together with her quilting group, sewing and putting together beautiful quilts and other projects. Weekly, she met with Janis, Theresa, Diane, Josephine, Regina, Rita, Christine, Mary, Sandra, and Kathleen. These ladies traveled throughout Nova Scotia and to Maine, New York, and Texas looking for material to create new projects and to do a little shopping.
Debbie loved reading, bowling, roller skating, skating, and learning how to dance. Debbie also loved to go to craft shows and lunch with her sister, Gloria, daughter, Tanya, and niece, Paula. This was the start to her favorite holiday, Christmas. On Sundays, Debbie enjoyed her weekly visits to Glace Bay to see Snookie, Barb and Jerry to share coffee and something sweet.
Debbie loved to entertain. She was known for her lobster chowder and hosting friends often for cards. Debbie and Eddie had an inseparable relationship with their closest and cherished friends for over 30 years. Donna and Donnie and Sharon and Alan became more than just friends. They are their extended family and enjoyed many memorable vacations together. They saw each other regularly for cards, supper and celebrations.
Right up until her final days, Debbie showed her quick wit, and always spoke her mind, whether her friends and family liked it or not. She was honest, truthful, funny and kind to everyone who knew her. Her friends and family admired these qualities in Debbie. She was a beautiful soul and a remarkable wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
The family of Debbie would like to send a sincere Thank You to the Palliative Care staff, VON staff, New Dawn Home Care, The Red Cross, the Cancer Doctors, and friends and family who supported Debbie when she was sick. We appreciate family and friends dropping into our home to say their final goodbyes and truly appreciate all of the food, cards, and gifts. A special Thank You to cousin, Rose for blessing Debbie and catering the reception.
Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Debbie Moules will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Saturday, September 27, 2025. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. with the memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Debbie may be made to The Whitney Pier Boys and Girls Club, Molly’s Mission, Nadine’s Comfort Closet, or a charity of your choice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
