Monica Erickson passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at MacGillivray Guest Home in Sydney, surrounded by her loving family.
On February 21, 1939, Monica was born and raised in Glace Bay. Monica built her life around love for her family and care for those around her. At the age of 19, Monica took her love and care to Sydney and became a devoted wife, a loving mother, and caring friend.
Monica is survived by her husband, Leif ‘Doods’ Erickson; daughters, Ina Globe (Richard) and Lynda Hill; daughter-in-law, Annette Erickson; siblings, Elizabeth, Thomas, Janice, Cecil, and Jimmy; eight grandchildren, Barb, Jennifer, Jeff, Dylan, Emily, Erin, Patrick, and Katie; seven great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Monica was predeceased by parents, Pat and Viola McIntyre; two sons, Patrick Erickson and Michael Erickson; siblings, Mary, Marina, Viola, Pat, Peyton; and son-in-law, Andrew Hill.
Many of you reading this knew Monica as a steady, generous presence. You knew her kindness, her humour, and the way she carried a quiet strength that made others feel at ease.
If you were lucky, you also knew how fiercely Monica loved her family. That love was her greatest gift — woven into everyday moments, into laughter and care, into the lives of those she cherished. It is a gift that endures, living on in the hearts of all who knew her.
In keeping with Monica’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Monica can be made to MacGillivray Guest Home.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
