Whitney Pier

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family announce the passing of Alfred “Alfie” Edward Boone, at the age of 75. He passed peacefully on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, just days short of his 76th birthday.

Born October 8, 1949, in Whitney Pier, Alfie was the eldest child of the late Mary (Reid) and David Boone. He grew up on French Street, attended Holy Redeemer Church, and proudly served as an altar boy, earning the Golden Altar Boy Award. Alfie sang in the choir and played hockey for Holy Redeemer Boys School and Don Bosco.

Alfie later served seven years with the Canadian Reserve Army, where he earned his cross and rifles, his DND military license, and achieved the rank of Corporal. He often said his Army years were among the most memorable of his life.

A skilled carpenter and hardworking tradesman, Alfie helped build family homes with his own hands and worked in industries across Nova Scotia and Alberta. His career included multiple companies, the Pt. Edward Heavy Water Plant in Port Hawkesbury where he worked with his father. He also worked for Sydney Landscaping, Brookfield / Scotsburn Dairy, he owned and operated Boone’s Dairy in Whitney Pier with his trusted sidekick German Shepherd, Apache. He later had his own renovation company.

Later, Alfie moved to Calgary, where he worked for Alberta Fire & Flood Restoration and built lasting friendships. He returned to Cape Breton after eleven years, semi-retired, and continued working alongside his good friend John MacDonald. Alfie was an active member of the Old City Club and coached his son’s hockey teams in Sydney River and Whitney Pier.

Alfie is survived by his wife, Patricia (McComb); children, Robert (Samantha), Kurt (Alyssa), Tonya, and Celeste (Kraig); grandchildren, Hayden, Jake, Larissa, Emily, Landon, Kraig Jr., Courtney, and great-granddaughter Briella; as well as siblings, Stephen, David, Greg, Clarence, Timmy, Michael, Kathy, and Laura. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, George.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the many friends and coworkers he cherished over the years, in both Nova Scotia and Alberta as well as a heartfelt thank you to the caring nurses, doctors and staff on 4C.

Memorial service to celebrate the life of Alfie Boone will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at 11 a.m. with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks at 1 p.m. following the reception.

Donations in memory of Alfie may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
