Catalone

Donnie Hall, 79, of Catalone passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in Catalone, he was the son of the late John and Theresa (Troke) Hall. In early years Donnie was a fish cutter and mechanic. However, due to a tragic car accident, he was left a quadriplegic and confined to a wheelchair for the last 51 years. He was lovingly cared for by his wife, Mary Ann, until her death in 2003.

Since that time, he had been under the wonderful care of the VON and County Home Care Workers.

Donnie is survived by his son, Raymond (Jacqueline) Hall; daughter, Jeanette (Lester) Huffman both of Sydney; sisters-in-law, Katie and Peggy Hall; special friend and caregiver, Josh Lahey; nephew, Victor Hall; the extended Hall family; the extended Holland family, and special nephew-in-law, Ricky Holland. Donnie was the last surviving member of his family.

Donnie was predeceased by his wife, Mary Ann (Holland) Hall; brothers, Alex, Earl, Henry, Angus, Tommy, and sisters, Isabel, Maria, and Rose.

Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Donald Hall will be held at MacMillan Memorial United Church, Catalone on Friday, August 15, 2025. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 11 a.m. to 12 noon with the memorial service to follow at 12 noon in MacMillan Memorial United Church with Rev. Emily Duggan officiating. Interment will take place in Loch End Cemetery following the service.

Donations in memory of Donald may be made to MacMillan Memorial United Church, Catalone.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
